I was out in the ocean of self-doubt, drowning in the negative thought process. Silently slipping under continuous waves of comparison, self hate, and loathsomeness. Silently losing faith, not finding bottom, I was taking my last gasp for air and the sharks had begun to circle. During a break in the waves, Sam Heughan dropped me a life-preserver. I decided to grab onto that precious ring of hope and hold on with every ounce of strength and self-preservation I had left. Winston Churchill said, “Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.” This has become my motto for My Peak Challenge. What do I lose compared to what I might gain? I must leave this ocean of mine to find out.
Before the rescue party heads off into the sunset attending to their own lives, I would like to express my deepest appreciation to Mr. Heughan, along with Fight Camp of Glasgow and Bear Strength Clothing, for your genius in creating My Peak Challenge. I am not sure of your inspiration, but I do know that you have become one. Your spark has ignited fires with passion for fitness all around the world.
Now, I find myself on a very nice beach and must find sustenance. There are others here to share in the struggle and encourage each other toward peak fitness. BAMStrength bamstrengthgirls.wordpress.com has been a welcome surprise. I have found camaraderie, inspiration and motivation as I read the posts and tweets from the ‘BAMSisters’ on Facebook and Twitter. The monthly themes, workouts, helpful suggestions and contests are great fun and a distraction from the pain. I look forward to amping up my program with their help. If you find yourself alone in this as well, heed some friendly advice and surround yourself with a community that is dedicated to your success and remember, “No man is an island.”
